Hoe kan het hedendaagse Freinetonderwijs een antwoord bieden op de complexe vragen die de wereld van vandaag aan toekomstige generaties stelt?
Dat is de centrale vraag die ik stel in mijn nieuwe boek L'École Freinet. In het voorjaar van 2025 verbleef ik gedurende langere tijd als gast op de Freinetschool in Vence, de school die ooit werd opgericht door Célestin en Elise Freinet. Ik maakte foto's en tekeningen van deze authentieke, functionerende Freinetschool. Aangevuld met informatie die ik kreeg van de kinderen, de leerkrachten en soms de literatuur, zocht ik naar het antwoord op de gestelde vraag. Actuele kwesties waar de wereld mee worstelt: opkomend neofascisme, toenemende individualisering, uitbuiting, haatzaaierij, een gebrek aan moed om verantwoordelijkheid te nemen... Doet een school daar iets aan? Het komt allemaal ter sprake terwijl ik reflecteer op wat ik heb meegemaakt op de school in Vence. Het boek is alleen nog verkrijgbaar in het Nederlands en als pdf in het Frans. Tijdens RIDEF 2026 in Gniewino, Polen, gaf ik een 7 daagse workshop (voertaal Engels) gebaseerd op de 7 hoofdstukken van het boek. How can current Freinet education answer the complex questions that today's world poses to future generations?
That is the central question I ask in my new book L'École Freinet. In the spring of 2025, I spent an extended period as a guest at the Freinet school in Vence, the school once founded by Célestin and Elise Freinet. I took photographs and made drawings of this authentic, functioning Freinet school. Supplemented with information I received from the children, the teachers, and sometimes the literature, I searched for the answer to the question posed. Current issues the world is grappling with: rising neo-fascism, increasing individualization, exploitation, hate-mongering, a lack of courage to take responsibility... Does a school do anything about that? It all comes up for discussion as I reflect on what I experienced at the school in Vence. The book is available in Dutch and French (pdf). During RIDEF 2026 in Gniewino, Poland, I gave a 7-day workshop (in English) based on the 7 chapters of the book. Comment l'éducation Freinet actuelle peut-elle répondre aux questions complexes que le monde d'aujourd'hui pose aux générations futures ?
C'est la question centrale que je pose dans mon nouveau livre L'École Freinet. Au printemps 2025, j'ai séjourné pendant une longue période en tant qu'hôte à l'école Freinet de Vence, l'école fondée autrefois par Célestin et Élise Freinet. J'ai pris des photographies et réalisé des dessins de cette école Freinet authentique et fonctionnelle. Complétées par les informations que j'ai reçues des enfants, des enseignants et parfois de la littérature, j'ai cherché à répondre à la question posée. Les enjeux actuels auxquels le monde est confronté : la montée du néofascisme, l'individualisation croissante, l'exploitation, l'incitation à la haine, un manque de courage pour assumer ses responsabilités... Une école peut-elle y faire quelque chose ? Tout cela est abordé au fil de ma réflexion sur ce que j'ai vécu à l'école de Vence. Le livre est disponible en néerlandais et en français (pdf). Lors du RIDEF 2026 à Gniewino, en Pologne, j'ai animé un atelier de 7 jours (en anglais) basé sur les 7 chapitres du livre.
